Mike Dewine - Candidate for Governor
Mike DeWine let Ohio kids and taxpayers down by taking no action for years, despite the crimes at ECOT. All the while he took campaign contributions from ECOT and Bill Lager.
DeWine has been the Ohio Attorney General since 2011 and it’s his job to protect kids, taxpayers and investigate corruption. Instead, DeWine ignored information provided to the state that ECOT ordered staff to manipulate school data. He took no action.
DeWine took 11 donations totaling $15,657.34 from ECOT, Bill Lager and his other companies.
The DeWine/Husted campaign for governor and lieutenant governor is still holding on to tainted campaign donations that ECOT founder Bill Lager and his affiliates gave to Husted, and they refuse to give them up.
John Husted - Candidate for Lt. Governor
As a state representative, Jon Husted was the chief sponsor of legislation giving ECOT and Lager the freedom to overcharge the state millions and millions of dollars for students that did not exist.
Husted has always been part of the ECOT scandal. He is one of the most ambitious politicians in Ohio and he gladly took 15 donations totaling at least $36,860 from ECOT, Bill Lager and his allies. http://innovationohio.org/2018/05/15/ecot-contributions/
Instead of doing his job and cracking down on ECOT, Husted promoted the fraudulent for-profit online school and its greedy owner Bill Lager. Husted spoke twice at ECOT graduation ceremonies that Lager paid students to attend.
Husted was awarded an honorary degree from ECOT that he gladly accepted in front students paid to be in the audience.
Dave Yost - Candidate for Attorney General
Dave Yost, the GOP candidate for attorney general, has been the Auditor of State since 2011. In that role, he was responsible for looking at ECOT’s books every year and protecting our kids and the taxpayers from fraud.
While ECOT was faking their enrollment numbers and scamming the State, Dave Yost gave ECOT the “Ohio Auditor of State Award of Distinction” for record keeping. Not just once or twice, but THREE times! Amazingly, during this time he collected 18 contributions from ECOT totalling $29,395 and spoke at their graduation ceremonies three times.
Despite Yost’s claims of “holding ECOT accountable,” his office failed to crack down on ECOT after a whistleblower “made allegations that ECOT was cooking its attendance books,” and he failed to notify prosecutors immediately when the most recent ECOT whistleblower talked with his office about potential fraud. Instead Yost waited more than a year to release his “audit” and referred the matter for possible criminal charges only after Democratic candidates and officials called him out. We now know that Yost, the State Auditor, failed to audit the 200 million records sent to his office.
Frank LaRose - Candidate for Secretary of State
Unfortunately, State Sen. Frank LaRose cannot be trusted. As a state lawmaker, he has regularly supported legislation to benefit for-profit charter schools while taking campaign contributions from ECOT and Lager and others.
LaRose was active in the ECOT scandal and cashed 8 checks from ECOT, Lager and affiliates for nearly $10,000. For years, LaRose ignored red flags about ECOT. Once the heat was turned up on Lager and ECOT, LaRose conveniently started to call for accountability, but it is too little, too late to recover the hundreds of millions of dollars taken from the classrooms of our kids.
Keith Faber - Candidate for State Auditor
Keith Faber is a lifelong politician who used his powerful position as Ohio Senate President rake in campaign contributions while looking the other way as ECOT and Bill Lager took millions from our kids.
Additionally, Faber collected hundreds of thousands of dollars for his caucus colleagues in the Senate to use in their campaigns.
Faber also used his powerful position to block attempts by the state to look into the fraudulent claims of inflated student enrollment. His efforts allowed ECOT to ripoff the state for millions and millions of dollars for students that didn’t exist.
Faber also made sure a “mystery amendment” was inserted in the budget bill to help ECOT.
Faber received 8 contributions from ECOT and Lager totaling more than $35,000, and when he got ECAUGHT red-handed, Faber quickly donated the tainted money to other schools.
Robert Sprague - Candidate for State Treasurer
State Rep. Robert Sprague is an ambitious politician running for State Treasurer who happily accepted thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from lobbyists for ECOT.
These lobbyists routinely met with Sprague to convince him to look the other way in the ECOT scandal.
Tens of thousands of ECOT campaign contributions also were laundered through the Ohio Republican Party and the Ohio House Republican Organizational Committee.
Sprague has been an apologist for Lager and ECOT, making excuses for the fraudulent for-profit charter school’s bilking of the State of Ohio for millions and millions of dollars for students who were never enrolled in ECOT.
